Add A Child To Insurance

Add Your Newborn To Insurance

The Providers here at Eden Park would like to take the time to congratulate you on your new baby! Now that they are here, it is time to think of the process of adding them to your insurance policy. To assist with this process we have listed a few tips below.

How Soon Should You Add Your Baby To The Insurance?

The baby may be covered for the FIRST 30 DAYS under the parent’s insurance policy. Once you receive the legal documents for your baby, you should begin the process of adding them to the policy of your choosing. It is VERY IMPORTANT to make sure to ask if your insurance is able to backdate the policy to the DOB of your baby. This means that coverage for your baby will start on their DOB as opposed to the date that they have been added to the policy.

If adding your baby through an employer:

  • Once insurance is approved through your employer, CALL the INSURANCE COMPANY to confirm that the baby has been added to the policy.

If adding your baby to a CHIP plan:

  • If you are planning to add your baby to a CHIP plan, please be aware that we only accept the following:
  • Geisinger CHIP, UPMC CHIP, UHC CHIP & Highmark CHIP.

Should you apply for a CHIP plan, your baby may automatically be eligible for Medicaid, please be aware that we are no longer accepting state provided Medicaid as a primary insurance. If this occurs we will not be able to see your child here.

If approved for CHIP, you must choose one of the plans listed above, if you do not do this they will pick a plan for you. If the plan that they have chosen is not one that is listed above, we will not be able to see your child here.

What Happens If We Are Unable To Verify Coverage By The 1 Month Visit?

  • Your baby MUST have ACTIVE coverage that we are able to validate, by the time of the 1 month well visit. If we are unable to verify insurance coverage, all services must be paid for at the time of service, NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Upon receiving verification of coverage we will bill your insurance company and refund any amounts owed to you after your plan has processed the claim.

To AVOID having to pay TOS, please complete the following steps:

  • Call your insurance company and confirm that they will cover the 1mo visit and that they will backdate coverage to your baby’s Date of Birth (give them the Date of Service).

Obtain a CALL REFERENCE # and then call our office at 717-569-8518 and provide us with the information that you have received PRIOR to your appointment, so that you will not be responsible for the balance.
